Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) claimed responsibility for a deadly July 14 attack on the country's intelligence headquarters in Abin in a communiqué released on July 23, 2010 on several jihadist websites. "This attack comes as a response to the killing of Emir of Jihad in Abin Jamil al-Ambari and his friend Fawaz al-Salhani (Amin al--Maqalih). The statment said that the operation was welcomed by Muslims in the vacinity of the attack. Muhammed Hilal (aka Muhajir al-Sanaani), an AQAP member was killed in the operation.
In addition, AQAP denied that the government arrested nine of its members who were invovled in Abin attack as well as the arrest Abdallah al-Jubair and 10 of its members in Hadramut.
AQAP reveleas that it has assassinated ex-intelligence officers in Abin:
- Colonel Salem Amusbah (expert in islamic groups and counter-terrorism and al-qaeda official)
- Major Jalal Usmani (Chief information in political security department, and trainer in the Institute for Counter-Terrorism in Aden)
- Officer Baslib (detective in political security department)
AQAP promised to respond to the shelling and killing of the women, children and elderly of Bakzam tribe in Al Maajila.
